Complete Denture

A complete denture replaces all the teeth of an arch when a fixed rehabilitation on implants is not possible or not wanted. Today it is no longer the uncomfortable denture of the past: in our Tirana clinics it is made with modern materials, designed around the features of the face and, whenever possible, anchored to two or four implants to obtain a stability that a traditional denture cannot offer.

What is a complete denture?

It is a removable prosthesis made of a resin base, which reproduces the gum and rests on the mucosa, and of artificial teeth in resin or high strength composite. A traditional complete denture stays in place through suction and the action of the cheeks and tongue. A denture on implants, called an overdenture, instead clips onto two or four implants through ball or bar attachments: the patient removes it for cleaning, but during the day it stays firm even while eating and speaking.

When is it indicated?

A complete denture is indicated in cases of complete tooth loss when a fixed rehabilitation on implants is not possible for health or bone reasons, or when the patient prefers a removable and simpler solution. The implant overdenture is the recommended choice for people who already have a denture that moves, causes pain or prevents them from eating with peace of mind, because with a small number of implants it completely transforms daily comfort. How is the treatment carried out in our Tirana clinics?

For a traditional denture the doctor takes impressions, records the relationship between the arches and the vertical dimension of the face and chooses the shape and colour of the teeth with you. A wax trial fitting follows, in which you check aesthetics and speech and ask for any changes, and finally the delivery with fit adjustments. For the overdenture, the surgeon places the implants under local anaesthesia with guided surgery; during healing you can use a provisional denture and, after a few months, the attachments are fitted and the final denture is clipped on.

How long does it take and how many trips are needed?

A traditional complete denture is completed in a single stay of about a week in Tirana. An implant overdenture requires two stays three to six months apart: during the first the implants are placed, during the second the final clipped on denture is delivered. Between the two trips the doctor follows you remotely by video call.
