Digital Smile Design

Digital Smile Design is the protocol we use to design your new smile on the computer before any treatment begins. Starting from photos, video and three dimensional scans of the face and teeth, the doctor and the laboratory of our Tirana clinics draw the shape, proportions and colour of the teeth in harmony with the lips, the eyes and the features, and show you the result in advance. It is the safest way to decide together what your smile will look like, with no surprises.

What is Digital Smile Design?

It is an aesthetic design method that combines photography, video and dedicated software. Reference lines are drawn on the images of the face, such as the smile line, the eye line and the midline, and the new teeth are designed on them respecting natural proportions. The digital design is then turned into a three dimensional model and into a mock up, a resin simulation applied to the teeth for a few minutes, which lets you see the result live, speak, smile and take photos before approving it.

When is it indicated?

Digital Smile Design is indicated whenever aesthetics are central to the treatment: porcelain veneers, crowns on the front teeth, full rehabilitations on implants, closing gaps, correcting short or worn teeth and in general for anyone unhappy with their smile who wants to understand what can be achieved. It is particularly useful for patients who come from far away, because the design can start remotely right after the free online consultation.

How is it carried out in our Tirana clinics?

During the free consultation the doctor collects photos and, if possible, a short video of your face while you speak and smile. On your arrival at the clinic the intraoral scan and professional photos are taken. The own laboratory prepares the design and discusses the details with the doctor, then the mock up is tried in the mouth: this is the moment you see your new smile and can ask for changes to shape, length or colour. Only after your approval are the final restorations made, following the approved design faithfully.

How long does it take?

The design stage takes a few days and can largely be done remotely. The mock up trial fitting takes place at the clinic in Tirana, often on the first or second day of the stay, so that the rest of the treatment, for example veneers, can be completed during the same trip. For full rehabilitations on implants the design also guides the shape of the provisional and of the final prosthesis.

What are the advantages?

The main advantage is predictability: you know exactly what to expect before the doctor touches your teeth and you take an active part in the decisions. The design improves communication between patient, doctor and laboratory, reduces the number of trial fittings and corrections and guarantees a result in harmony with the face, not only with the neighbouring teeth. A few photos of your mouth and face taken with a smartphone are enough; you can send them to us on WhatsApp or upload them in the free consultation request form. The doctor examines them, explains the possibilities and, if you decide to go ahead, the laboratory starts working on the design even before you leave for Tirana.

How much does it cost?

We do not publish prices and we do not send quotes by email, because a price given without seeing the patient's mouth is not a quote but a promise that often changes once you are in the chair. The cost of the treatment is explained by our dental surgeon and implantologist, who speaks Italian and English, after your free consultation: online by video call or directly at the clinic in Tirana. You receive the treatment plan and the cost in writing, item by item, and from that moment they do not change.
