Fixed braces with metal brackets are the most proven and versatile orthodontic system for correcting crowding, gaps, crooked teeth and bite problems, also in adults. What are fixed braces?

The appliance is made of small steel attachments, called brackets, bonded to the surface of the teeth and connected by a metal wire. The wire applies light, continuous forces that gradually move the teeth into the correct position. Modern brackets are smaller and less visible than in the past and self ligating techniques reduce friction, making the treatment more comfortable and often faster.

When are they indicated?

Fixed braces are indicated for moderate and severe malocclusions, for significant crowding, for impacted teeth to be recovered, for correcting deep, open or cross bites and in all cases where clear aligners are not enough. They are also indicated as orthodontic preparation before implants or prosthetics, to create the necessary space or straighten abutment teeth. During the free consultation, with photos, a scan and radiographs, the orthodontist assesses whether the treatment suits your case and is compatible with travelling.

How is the treatment carried out in our Tirana clinics?

After the free consultation the intraoral scan, photos and radiographs needed to study the case are taken. The orthodontist prepares the treatment plan and, in a session of about an hour, bonds the brackets and fits the first wire. Slight discomfort over the following days is normal and disappears quickly. The patient receives instructions for hygiene and eating, all in their own language, and a direct contact with the doctor on WhatsApp.

How long does it take and how are checkups organised?

Fixed orthodontic treatment lasts on average twelve to twenty four months, with periodic checkups to change the wire and adjust the forces. For patients living abroad the doctor schedules clinic checkups every two or three months, timed with short stays in Tirana, and between visits monitors progress with photos and video calls. The feasibility of the treatment for a patient living abroad is discussed openly before starting, so that the most realistic solution is chosen.

What are the advantages?

Fixed braces can solve even complex cases with precise control of tooth movements, do not depend on the patient's compliance like removable aligners and generally cost less than invisible alternatives. At the end of the treatment the smile is aligned, the bite works correctly and daily hygiene becomes easier, with lasting benefits for teeth and gums.

What happens at the end of the treatment?

Once the correct position is reached, the brackets are removed and the teeth polished. To keep the result the doctor bonds a retention wire behind the front teeth and supplies a night retainer. Maintenance checkups can be done remotely, and every orthodontic treatment in our clinics is covered by a written warranty and by a treatment plan delivered before starting.

How much does it cost?
