Fixed Bridge

A fixed bridge is a prosthesis that replaces one or more missing teeth by resting on the neighbouring teeth, which are prepared and covered with crowns joined together. It is a well established and reliable solution, indicated when implants are not possible or when the neighbouring teeth need to be covered anyway. In our Tirana clinics the bridge is made in zirconia in the own laboratory, with the same digital precision as single crowns.

What is a fixed bridge?

A bridge is made of at least three units: two crowns, called abutments, cemented onto the natural teeth on either side of the gap, and one or more intermediate teeth, called pontics, that fill the space of the missing tooth. The structure is a single piece of zirconia, possibly layered with aesthetic ceramic, which is cemented permanently. The patient cannot remove it and uses it like natural teeth.

When is it indicated?

A fixed bridge is indicated when one or a few teeth are missing and the neighbouring teeth are healthy and strong or already need crowns because they are heavily restored or root treated. It is the right choice for patients who cannot undergo implant surgery for health reasons, because of insufficient bone that cannot be corrected or by personal preference, and for those who want a quicker solution. How is the treatment carried out in our Tirana clinics?

In the first session the abutment teeth are prepared under local anaesthesia and a digital impression is taken with the intraoral scanner. The doctor chooses the shade together with you and fits a provisional bridge, with which you can eat and smile over the following days. The own laboratory designs the bridge on the computer, mills it in zirconia and characterises it. At the trial fitting session fit, contacts and aesthetics are checked, and at the final session the bridge is cemented permanently after checking the bite.

How long is the stay?

A stay of five to seven days in Tirana is enough to complete the bridge, from preparation to cementation. If the abutment teeth first need root canal treatment or a build up, these are done during the same stay. The doctor then follows you remotely by video call and remains reachable on WhatsApp for any question.
